Product Description

From #1 selling brand Hayward comes the Super Pump - a model in quiet with superior efficiency. The Hayward Super Pump is designed to work well with any in-ground swimming pool or spa and can even handle high-capacity pools. For pool or spa owners with rigorous filtration needs, such as frequent clogging due to foliage, the Hayward Super Pump is an effective solution that will save time and energy in the process.

What makes this Hayward swimming pool pump so "super"?
  • Simplified Maintenance: its see-through strainer cover with easy-access and exclusive swing-aside hand knobs (no tools needed here!) lets you quickly identify and clean out its contents. The special self-adjusting seal keeps it sealed dependably and there are no loose parts and no clamps. Access to all internal parts is simple with the service-ease design. By disengaging just four (4) bolts, the entire drive group and motor assembly can be removed without disturbing the pipe or mounting connections.
  • Motor Power: the high-performance, heavy-duty motor's ventilated airflow makes this one of the quietest heavy-duty swimming pool pumps on the market.
  • Durability: with a heat-resistant, industrial-size ceramic seal that is drip proof and a corrosion-proof impeller, this durable pool pump helps prevent clogging, leakages, and other problems induced by the elements.
  • Accommodating Size: the Hayward Super Pump has a larger than average basket at 110-cubic-inches for extra leaf-holding capacity, as well as over-sized housing and diffuser, which comes in handy for speedy pool priming.
  • Self-Priming: suction lift capabilities for this model go up to 10 feet above your swimming pool's water level.
  • Reliability: rugged, one-piece housing, with full-flow ports, assures rapid priming and continuous operation. The mounting base adapts 48- and 56- frame motors and provides stable, stress-free support.

  • Help from Doheny's Pool Pros! Frequently Asked Questions:
  • Should I run my pump 24 hours a day?

The Hayward Super Pump is designed to be run continuously, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Most pool owners save money on their electricity bills by running the pump only 8-15 hours per day. It all depends on what season it is, where you live, how big your pool is and the efficiency of your filter and pool chemicals management.
  • How do I prep the Super Pump for winter?

Winterizing the Super Pump is easy! The Super Pump has two drain plugs to easily allow you to drain the water from the pump housing for the off-season.
  • How do I replace my existing pump with a Super Pump?

Read through this entire process before taking a crack at this one. Shut off the power at the breaker and confirm that the power is OFF. Open the back of your existing pump and remove the wires that are coming into the pump and the conduit connector that is screwed into the motor. Using a hacksaw, cut the pipe coming in and going out of the existing pump, but leave some pipe to glue on a coupling. Remove the existing pump and position your new Super Pump. Exciting!

You may need to raise up your new Super Pump to meet the incoming pipe. Mate up the incoming and outgoing pipes and use Teflon tape on threaded fittings and PVC glue on pipe fittings.

Connect your wiring into the back of the motor onto terminals L1 and L2. Connect the ground wire to the green ground screw.
  • What wire size do I need for the Super Pump?

The wire size needed depends on which voltage you are using, but #14 wire works for most Super Pumps. If you need a wire for 115 Volts, you'll need a larger wire. See the chart in the owner's manual for specifics!
  • What breaker size do I need for the Super Pump?

Breaker size depends on which voltage you are using. A 15 amp breaker works for most Super Pumps. If you are using a 115 Volt Super Pump, you will need a larger breaker. See the chart in the owner's manual for specifics!
  • Where can I attach a bonding wire to bond the Super Pump?

One method to connect all the steel components of your inground pool together with all of the electrical components is to use bonding by use of a bare copper wire. There is a bonding lug on top of the Super Pump to attach the No. 8 bonding wire.

  • Hayward Inground Super Pump Troubleshooting:
  • If the motor won't start...

Check for loose connections, blown circuit breakers or fuses, and open switches or relays. Manually check to make sure motor shaft is unobstructed and has free movement.
  • If the motor cuts out...

Check for loose connections and wiring. Check for low voltage at the motor, which is frequently caused by undersized wiring. See the chart in the manual for wire sizing specifics. Take an amperage reading to check for binding and overload.
  • If the motor is humming, but doesn't start...

Check to see if the Governor is stuck in the open position. Manually check to make sure the motor shaft can move freely. Open the capacitor.
  • If the pump won't prime as expected...

Check the strainer housing to make sure it is filled with water and that the cover seals properly. Check to make sure all inlet and outlet valves are unobstructed. Check that the pool water level is above all inlet openings. Block the suction off as close to the pump as possible and check it the pump will develop a suction.

If the pump does not develop a vacuum and it has enough priming water, tighten all the bolts and fittings on the suction (inlet) side. Check the voltage to make sure the pump is up to the anticipated speed. Open the pump and take a look for any clogs or obstructions to remove. Remove and replace the shaft seal.

If the pump develops a vacuum, check the pump for a blocked suction line or blocked strainer and check for an air leak in the suction piping.
  • If you've detected low flow...

Check for undersized pool piping and clogged or obstructed strainer or suction lines. Take a discharge gauge reading- if it is high, check for plugged or obstructed discharge line of filter. Check for an air leak in the suction piping, which would present as bubbles issuing from the return fittings. Check the voltage to see if the pump is operating under speed. Check for a plugged or obstructed impeller.
  • If your pump is noisy...

Check for an air leak in the suction piping that could be causing a rumbling noise in the pump. Check for cavitation caused by an obstructed or undersized suction line or unrestricted discharge line. If practical, throttle the discharge line or correct the suction line. Check for vibration due to improper mounting. Check for foreign material in the pump housing. Check the motor bearings for rust, wear or continual overheating.

Needed a new pump as old one was the original from 1999. Removed the old pump and had the new one installed and running within 35 minutes. Turned on the power and I barely heard it running. Amazing! Easy to install.

got the pump in a couple of days. Wired it up and it replaced the same pump so the connections just took off the old pump. Very quiet and I'm running it 24/7 which Hayward said it is designed to run. Great Service.

I was having a wedding reception at my home on a Saturday and my pump burned out the Tues. before. I orded my pump from Doheny's Water Warehouse and had it 18 hrs. later. Not only did I receive the pump in record time but the pricing was much better than what I found around. Also, this pump seems quieter than the one like it that burned out. (8 Yrs. old) I highly recommend this pump!
