Good product, easy installation Review by Paul
This is a good product that is well built. Once the anchors are installed, the fence sections can be put in or taken out in about 30 seconds each. And I have no doubt that it will keep my 18 month and 3 yr old out of the pool. Installation is straight forward, you'll need an SDS Plus or SDS Max drill bit. Rent a good hammer drill [...] and make sure the bit is good. Don't use a cheap $100 hammer drill without the keyed bit of SDS, I did that installing my pool cover and it took about 10 minutes per hole. With the SDS Max, it took about 30 seconds to drill a hole. Total time to drill, move the alignment tool and check/set the alignment is about 2 minutes per hole once you get in the rhythm of it. I rented the drill, drilled 42 holes, installed the sleeves and put in the fence and returned the drill well within the 4 hr rental time. The only tool that I'd recommend that the instructions don't call out is a rubber mallet for hammering in the sleeves. I cut a slit in one fence section to go around my diving board and after about a month it doesn't appear to have torn any further. The only problem I had was that the hooks that attach the fences together have a safety catch that doesn't slide well. If it weren't for that, I'd give it five stars. But you can permanently lock them open so you don't have to fight it each time. At four feet high, I'm not worried that my kids will unhook it with the safety catch open. I had one that was mismanufactured and Doheny's emailed me a shipping label to return it. I had to pay return shipping on the alignment tool and an extra fence section I didn't need, each cost about $30 USPS. Given how well constructed and secure it is and how much piece of mind it gives me with my young children, I don't think it's over priced.
Good product and price, marginal customer service Review by Rex
I ordered the pool fencing June 5. I could not find a 'SDS' drill bit specified by the instructions that would fit in the provided drill guide. I tried several length masonry bits and extensions, none of which would fit in the drill guide. The drill must be able to slide in from the bottom. The 'SDS' drill bits that I was able to locate have an enlarged throat that will not fit through the drill guide. Called the manufacturer, Cantar GLI five times between June 30 and July 23 with no response. Called Doheny's on 10 July and talked with Lisa who said she would talk to GLI. Finally called Doheny's on July 25 and asked to talk to a manager. Talked to Debbie who was finally able to get GLI to take action. After several more phone calls, I talked to Mr. Brian Frost at GLI who had an SDS drill bit that would fit into the drill guide. Mr. Frost sent the drill bit to me and I was finally able to install the fencing three months after purchasing it. The frustrating part was all the time I had to expend to get to the person that could help me. Hopefully GLI will revise their instructions to indicate that the drill bit must be an SDS 'Plus' not just any 'SDS' drill bit. Bottom line is you need a SDS 'Plus' 5/8"x18" masonry drill bit to use the drill guide. An SDS 'Max' will not fit in the drill guide. The SDS 'Plus' drill bits are not available at your local hardware store in that length.
