Make winterizing your pool a breeze with our specialized pool closing kits! Whether you have an above-ground pool or an inground pool, our winterizing kits provide you with all the essential chemicals you need to protect your pool during the colder months–at the guaranteed lowest prices. Enjoy peace of mind and make pool closing a simple task with our high-quality closing kits.

While searching for the right closing kit, you might begin to wonder if there are specific closing kits for above-ground and inground pools - the answer is no. Our pool closing kits are built around the size of your pool, not the type of construction. This makes choosing the perfect kit for your pool a breeze. All you need to know is how many gallons of water your pool holds, then choose the appropriate kit. All of our closing kits are listed below:

Essential Chemicals to Winterize Your Pool

Doheny’s pro-grade pool closing kits have all the essential chemicals to close your pool and do it right.

  • Oxidizing Tablets: Oxidizers remove non-living contaminants that make your pool cloudy. Slow-release oxidizing tablets help maintain clear, clean water throughout the winter months.
  • Oxidizing Shock: Much like tablets, shock removes inert contaminants that–if left unchecked–will lead to cloudy, murky water. Shock works right away to make sure your water is in the best condition possible before you close it.
  • Metal Out: Metal Out is a pro-grade sequestering agent that keeps metals in solution to prevent staining, scaling, and discoloration to your pool surface and equipment while providing clear pool water.

Pool Antifreeze

Swimming pool antifreeze is often used to prevent water inside the pool plumbing from freezing, expanding, or causing damage over the winter. Using pool antifreeze will help ensure the pipes won’t be damaged by below-freezing temps during the colder months. Doheny’s pro-grade pool antifreeze will protect your investment down to -50 degrees giving you peace of mind when the winter weather comes.

Winter Pill For Pools

Doheny's Winter Pill is an easy-to-use solution to make spring pool opening fast and easy! Just one pill treats up to 30,000 gallons of water for up to six months. Its all-in-one 4-part blend includes a scale inhibitor to prevent the build-up of scale and a stain inhibitor to prevent iron, copper, and manganese staining. The enzyme-enhanced Winter Pill naturally destroys organics, preventing a water ring. It enhances filter performance and improves sanitizer efficiency. Try the Winter Pill when you close your pool this year!

Get All The Winterizing Pool Chemicals You Need In One Kit

Doheny’s Winter Pool Closing Kits contain all the chemicals you need In order to ensure an easy spring pool opening next year. Since pools are not normally used in the winter months, the water is not filtered, circulated, or sanitized, making it easy for algae to grow and for stains to develop. Our pro-grade pool winterizing kits come complete with everything you need to close your pool and protect your liner or plaster walls from stains or fading. Each kit contains a high-quality Winter Guard or Metal Free Pro, Metal Out or Metal Pro, slow-dissolving and time-released Winter Oxidizing tablets, specifically formulated and non-chlorinated Oxi-Shock.

Need Help With Your Pool Closing Kit?

Closing your pool for the winter is easy enough for most homeowners to take care of on their own; however, for anyone who has never gone through the process before, we’ve put together several resources to help you get your pool prepped for the cold winter months.

Are Pool Closing Kits Necessary

While pool closing kits aren’t necessary–since it is possible to buy all the chemicals you need separately–they do make it much more convenient and economical. Not to mention the cost savings. Our pool winterizing kits have all the chemicals required to close your pool right, packaged together and offered at the lowest prices around.

What Happens If I Don’t Winterize My Pool?

Not properly winterizing your pool can lead to a number of bad outcomes. You run the risk of damaging your pump, filter, and plumbing when water trapped inside freezes and expands. Plus, if the chlorine stops doing its job–which it probably will–algae will likely grow and turn your water green, making for a much more difficult opening in the spring.

When is the right time to start closing my pool for the winter?

There isn’t one specific time to close your pool. It will depend on the weather where you live. You need to pay attention to your water temperatures. The Pool Pros at Doheny’s recommend waiting until your pool water temperature drops below 65 degrees but before it drops below 40 degrees. The colder the better to inhibit winter algae growth!

What Does A Pool Closing Kit Consist Of?

Doheny’s pool closing kits consist of a convenient and economical package of high-quality Winter Guard or Metal Free Pro, Metal Out or Metal Pro, slow-dissolving and time-released Winter Oxidizing tablets, specifically-formulated, non-chlorinated Oxi-Shock, and our complete winterizing instruction guide.

Do I need to winterize my pool if I live in a milder climate?

If you live in a milder climate you may only need to partially close your pool. This is only the case if the coldest weather in your region isn’t too severe and the temperature never drops below freezing. Check out our How to Close Your Pool in the South to learn all about closing your pool in a milder climate.

Do I need to cover my pool in winter?

The short answer is no, you don’t have to cover your pool in winter, but there are some strong arguments for doing it. First, the water in an uncovered pool is exposed to sunlight which will speed up the breakdown of chemicals and encourage stains, scaling, and algae growth. Second, debris will accumulate in an uncovered, unused pool, affecting your water quality and creating stains. Our Pool Pros recommend covering your pool in winter. It will make for a much smoother opening when swimming weather arrives again.

How Do I Close My Pool?

With the right chemicals–like those found in Doheny’s Pool Closing Kits–anybody can properly winterize their own pool, just like the pool pros. For a complete step-by-step guide on how to close your own pool, check out our pool closing video series.
