General Information
Extra-Strength Flocculent thoroughly settles suspended debris (carbonates, silica, dead algae and spore-like materials) to the pool bottom so debris maybe easily vacuumed to waste. Use with normal pH and Free Chlorine levels
Directions for Use
1. SHAKE WELL BEFORE USING. 2. For best results, adjust pool water pH to 8.0. 3. Use at a rate of 8 oz. per 10,000 gallons. 4. Add Extra-Strength Flocculent slowly into skimmer with pump on and filter valve in Recirculate or Whirlpool position. For filters without Recirculate position: backwash, with filter in Filter Mode, dilute Extra-Strength Flocculent into large plastic pail of water and apply evenly over surface of pool. 5. Let pump circulate water for 2 hours to distribute Extra-Strength Flocculent throughout pool. 6. Shut off pump. Let Extra-Strength Flocculent settle debris to bottom while pool remains undisturbed for 12 to 48 hours (usually overnight). Note: The greater the debris in the water, the faster this product works. To speed settling time, you may double or triple dosage. 7. Vacuum all settled debris with filter in Waste or Drain Mode. Note: Settling may continue for several days if new debris is introduced by wind or rain. If so, vacuum to waste again. 8. Backwash and clean filter and resume normal filter cycle.
Water with Algae or Spore-Like Material
1. Extra-Strength Flocculent will not kill algae or spores, but assists in their removal after being treated with chlorine. Double or triple shock pool with suitable chlorine shock such as a Calcium Hypochlorite shock or Sodium Hypochlorite shock in the evening. 2. Let filter run two hours and turn off. 3. The following morning, follow steps 1 through 8 outlined above if cloudy water persists.
Storage and Disposal
Keep container closed when not in use. Store in an inaccessible area to persons unfamiliar with its use. Keep away from children, pets and animals. Do not store leaking or damaged containers! Contents can be used as directed then place the damaged container in a plastic bag and discard in the trash. Mop up spills with clean water. Do not reuse or refill this container. Offer for recycling if available.

It binds suspended debris—like dead algae and silica—into larger clumps that settle on the pool floor so you can vacuum them directly to waste. This is the fastest way to clear a "swampy" pool during spring opening.
How much flocculent do I need for my pool?
The standard dosage is 8 oz per 10,000 gallons. For your convenience, we offer three sizes to ensure the best value:

Is Doheny’s Extra-Strength Flocculent safe for all pool types?
Yes! Our formula contains no corrosive aluminum or ammonia and is non-staining. It is safe for use in vinyl liner, fiberglass, and plaster/gunite pools. It is compatible with all filter types, though it is most commonly used with sand and DE filters that have a "Waste" setting.
Do I need to adjust my pH before using this product?
For maximum effectiveness, we recommend adjusting your pool's pH to 8.0 before application. While the product itself is pH neutral and won't shift your levels, the "floccing" reaction works best in a slightly alkaline environment.
Can I use this if I have a cartridge filter?
You can, but use caution. Since flocculent settles debris to the bottom, you must be able to vacuum to waste (bypassing the filter). If your cartridge system doesn't have a bypass or waste valve, the "floc" can clog your cartridge elements quickly, requiring deep cleaning or replacement.
How soon can I swim after treatment?
You should wait until the product has completely settled the debris to the bottom and you have successfully vacuumed the floor. This usually takes 12 to 24 hours. Once the water is crystal clear and your chemical levels are balanced, the pool is ready for swimmers!
