Product Description

Doheny’s Super Pool Shock is our best-selling pool shock. It kills algae, bacteria, and other organic contaminants to quickly turn your pool water from cloudy to clear. Quick dissolving and fast-acting, it contains 68% calcium hypochlorite as the active ingredient to sanitize and help clear even the most contaminated pools.

This versatile granular chlorine pool shock is highly effective for your pool opening in the spring. Its 65% available chlorine gives your swimming pool a quick chlorination boost to keep your pool water crystal clear and free of contaminants throughout the swim season.

Doheny’s Super Shock for pools are sold in easy-to-use one-pound bags in quantities of 6, 12, 24, and 48 with a shelf life of up to 18 months, providing a great value for your daily chlorination and pool chemical maintenance needs. The regular dosage of our Super Shock is one bag for every 10,000 gallons of water. However, spring openings or pools that sustain extensive sunlight or have excessive algae blooms may require double or triple doses to properly sanitize pool water.

Does Super Pool Shock kill algae or just clear cloudy water?
Super Pool Shock is formulated to kill algae, bacteria, and organic contaminants, not just improve water clarity. Shocking helps eliminate the source of cloudiness while restoring sanitizer effectiveness.

Can I shock my pool if chlorine levels are already high?
If chlorine levels are already elevated, shocking may not be necessary. Super Pool Shock is most effective when chlorine is low or struggling to stay active due to heavy use, algae, or organic buildup.

Doheny's Super Shock - 68% Calcium Hypochlorite (65% available chlorine). Our #1 selling pool shock. Kills algae, bacteria, and other harmful contaminants in your pool. Ideal to use as your primary shock treatment.

Doheny's Di-Chlor Chlorinating Shock - 99% Sodium Dichloro-S-Triazinetrione (56% available chlorine). Use in vinyl-lined, fiberglass, or color plaster pools. Great for salt and liquid chlorine pools. Can act as a 3-in-1 concentrate treatment, used as a primary sanitizer as well as a shock treatment.

Doheny's Oxidizing Shock - 42% Potassium Monopersulfate. The perfect compliment to either Super Shock or Di-Chlor Shock. Oxidizes your pool meaning that it removes everything that the shock has killed and burns off dead chlorine cells leaving your pool crystal clear and boosting active chlorine cells.

Fast Acting & Dissolves Quickly - Doheny's shock quickly boosts your pool's chlorine level. Comes in a granular formula making it easily dissolved in water.

Maximum Sanitizing Power - Destroys organic contaminants quickly and effectively. Kills algae, bacteria, and other harmful contaminants with ease.

Leaves Water Crystal Clear - Doheny's shock makes your pool go from cloudy to clear by removing harmful contaminants and dead chlorine cells.

Directions for Use

How to Use:Do not pre-mix this product before adding it to your pool. Only add this product directly to your pool or skimmer. Use entire contents when opened.

Method for dosing directly into pool: Add the recommended dosage of this product during evening hours while the filter pump is running. When adding this product to your pool, broadcast the product evenly over a wide area in the deepest part of the pool. If any granules settle to the bottom of the pool, use brush to disperse.

Method for Skimmer Addition: Make sure that filter pump is on and properly recirculating through skimmer. Empty skimmer of all chemicals and/or debris. Contamination may cause an explosion or the release of toxic gases. Do not use this method when an automatic chemical dispensing device !e.g. feeder) is present. Pour this product slowly into skimmer, making sure that the material is drawn into the system at the same rate; do not allow this material to accumulate as toxic gases may be generated.

Shock Treatment / Superchlorination: For best results, see "HOW TO USE" sections above before treatment. Every 7 days, or as necessary to prevent pool problems, shock treat/ super chlorinate the pool by adding one bag of this product per 10,000 gallons of water to provide 5 to 10 ppm available chlorine. Additional shock treatments may be required to correct problems which are caused by visible algae, high bathing loads, heavy wind and rainstorms. Additional shock treatments may also be required to correct problems such as unpleasant odors and eye irritation. Check the available chlorine with a suitable test kit. Re-entry into treated pools is prohibited above levels of 4 ppm due to risk of bodily harm.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much super pool shock should I use for my pool?

Use 1 pound of Doheny's Super Pool Shock per 10,000 gallons of pool water for routine maintenance. For green pools or algae issues, a "double" or "triple" shock might be needed.

How do I add super pool shock to my pool safely?

To safely use Doheny's Super Pool Shock, pre-dissolve the product in a clean bucket of water before slowly pouring it around the perimeter of your pool—preferably in the evening to minimize sunlight breakdown. Always handle with care, wear protective gear, and never mix with other shock or pool chemicals. Follow all instructions on the Doheny's label for safe and effective application. Remember - always add chemicals to water, not water to chemicals!

How long should I wait to swim after shocking my pool?

The waiting time depends on the type of shock used and the dosage. For standard chlorine shock, it's generally recommended to wait until the free chlorine level drops below 3 ppm, which can take anywhere from 4 to 24 hours. Always test your water before swimming. Shocking your pool at night is ideal so your pool is swim-ready in the morning!

How often should I shock my pool?

As a general rule, most pools benefit from shocking once a week, especially with regular use, high temperatures, or after heavy rain. You should also shock immediately if you notice cloudy water, algae growth, or strong chlorine odors (which indicate chloramines).

Why isn't my pool shock working effectively?

Common reasons include insufficient dosage for your pool size or problem, high cyanuric acid levels (chlorine stabilizer) that "lock up" the chlorine, very high pH, or severe algae blooms that require multiple treatments. Ensure your water is balanced before shocking for best results.
