Doheny's Synthetic Rubber Base Paints

Read All Directions Thoroughly Prior to Use

Description: This product is a premium grade, high gloss, rubber based paint for use over previously painted synthetic rubber or chlorinated rubber pools. This product is easy to apply and with its stain-resistant finish, will afford years of maintenance free service. It is VOC compliant throughout the US meeting all current regulations.

Limitations: Air and surface temperature must be between 50-90 degrees F. Do not apply when rain is imminent. Not to be used in hot tubs or whirlpools or on concrete decks. Do not use on wood, metal, or bare fiberglass. For new or bare concrete, fiberglass, and plaster, we recommend using Doheny's High Build Epoxy Coating.

Mixing: Mix to uniformity by mechanical mixing, shaking, and/or boxing. Multiple containers should be intermixed in separate containers to insure color uniformit.

Surface Preparation: For previously painted synthetic rubber or chlorinated rubber pools: Surfaces must be free of all dirt, chalk, oil, loose paint and other foreign matter which could prevent proper adhesion. The surface should be power washed with a minimum 3500 p.s.i. power washer before beginning the cleaning to remove any loose paint and dirt. The integrity of the surface should be checked for cracks and a weak substrate. Coating performance, in general, is proportional to the degree of surface preparation. Follow recommendations carefully, avoiding shortcuts. Inadequate preparation of surfaces will virtually assure inadequate coating performance. TSP Solution should be used on all nonepoxy-based coatings or bare concrete. TSP solution dissolves mineral deposits and increases porosity to create maximum adhesion. Use a minimum 3500 P.S.I. power washer to remove solution. Follow package directions carefully for paint or epoxy application. Surface preparation should commence immediately after emptying the pool so no additional drying time is needed. POOL MUST BE COMPLETELY DRY BEFORE PAINTING. Perform the condensation test to determine dryness of pool surface. Flaking, chipping, or peeling of existing coating on more than 20% of the surface may indicate a surface that is soon to fail. Consider stripping and refinishing the whole surface with Doheny's High Build Epoxy Coating for the best results.

Application: This product can be applied by brush, 3/8” or smaller nap roller, or spray. Avoid painting in midday sun. Application is recommended early in the day or late in the afternoon, when at least 2 hours of sunlight remain after completion of the job. Touch up any bare spots with one coat before painting the entire surface. Apply 2 coats of this product at the recommended coverage rates. When spraying, follow manufacturer's recommendations carefully. Thinning is not necessary unless using spray equipment. For easier application of first coat, product may be thinned up to the legal VOC limit in your state. NO PRIMER NEEDED.

Non-Skid Surfaces: Steps, wading and baby pools can be made non-skid by using clean, dry sand. Immediately after applying a coat of paint, sprinkle either by hand at your own discretion onto the wet film. After the paint has dried, sweep up the loose sand and apply another thin coat of this product to seal the sand. Alternately, sand can be mixed into the paint for desired texture.

Coverage: Coverage will depend on porosity and texture of the surface. DO NOT APPLY TOO THICKLY. Applying too much paint will require longer drying time prior to filling the pool and could result in blistering/and/or sagging of the paint film.

Coverage Rates: Up to 400 sq ft/gal on previously painted synthetic or chlorinated rubber surfaces.

Recoat: Minimum - Overnight - 24 hours from first application.

Fill Time of Pool: Outdoor 5-7 dry, sunny days. Indoor 10 days. If it rains, add a dry day for every wet day and removing any standing water from the bottom of the pool.

Shelf-Life: Unopened can is 4 years from manufacture date.

Maintenance: Recoating or small area touch up can be made at any time following recommended application procedures.

Additional Precautionary Information: Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames, hot surfaces, and other ignition sources. Take other precautionary measures against static discharge. Store and use the product in a well-ventilated area. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing, eye and face protection. Dispose of contents in accordance with local, regional, national, international regulations.

First Aid Treatment: Contains parachlorobenzotrifluoride, titanium dioxide, and xylene. If on skin (or hair): Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water/shower. If inhaled: Remove person to fresh air and keep comfortable for breathing. If in eyes: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if applicable. If swallowed: Seek medical attention or call a Poison center/doctor immediately. Do not induce vomiting unless directed by a physician or poison control center.
