Cartridge and Filters and D.E. Filter Elements:
Remove filter cartridges or removable diatomaceous earth (D.E.) elements and rinse with clean water. Add 1 pound of Cartridge Cleaner per 5 gallons of warm water in a plastic bucket. Make enough solution to cover the filter elements. NEVER use a metal bucket or pail to mix this solution. Stir solution with wooden or plastic stirrer until it is completely dissolved. Place cartridge or element in a bucket of dissolved cleaner solution and soak 10 to 12 hours. Remove cartridge or elements from the solution and rinse with water using a high pressure nozzle. If possible, allow cartridges to dry before placing back in service.
Sand Filters and Non-Removable Elements:
Make enough solution to cover filter media by dissolving 1 pound of cartridge cleaner per 5 gallons of warm water. After back-washing the fitler, turn off pump, drain filter and remove any excess hair, lint and other debris from the lint pot. Turn pump back on with handle still in the backwash position and pour solution into the lint pot until the sand and all the elements are completely covered. Shut off pump and leave handle in the backwash position. Allow solution to remain in the filter for 10 to 12 hours. Backwash until water exiting the backwash line is completely clear. However, do not allow cleaning solution to backwash into the pool.
