How to Raise Bromine Levels in a Hot Tub with FROG Serene®?

  1. Check to see if the bromine cartridge is empty. Let the water drain from the cartridge and shake it to see if there is any chemical left inside. If not, replace.
  2. Determine if the bromine cartridge setting is too low. To help find the correct setting to maintain a low 1.0 to 2.0 ppm bromine level, adjust only one setting per day testing the water after 24 hours to see the effect. Once you find the correct setting do not alter it. See manual for more details.
  3. Evaluate your spa usage. If the spa is being used a lot, then the need for bromine (bromine demand) is increased. If this is a temporary situation, like a party, then you should supplement by shocking with either chlorine or non-chlorine shock. If it is an ongoing situation, then consider a higher dial setting.
  4. Clean your filter. A dirty filter restricts water flow which reduces the amount of bromine being dispensed into the spa.
  5. Check the expiration date on your test strips or kit.

Most test strips and testing reagents last only 12 to 18 months. After that date, they may not register readings properly. In addition, if you are putting wet hands into the test strip container, you could be contaminating the strips which will shorten their life even further.
